Tibetan coins
Tibet minted it's own coins from 1792 to 1953. Except a few small issues of bilingual Sino-tibetan coins, that were issued parallel to the Tibetan ones under Chinese authority, Tibet issued it's own coins with no reference to China. Early Tibetan coins differed from Chinese coins in:
- material: they were silver (China bronze)
- production technique: they were struck (Chinese casted in a mould)
- weight: they had the weight of a Nepali Mohar (not like any Chinese coin)
- denomination: 1 Tamka is according to the Nepali weight and denomination system
- size: they had the size of a Nepali Mohar (not like any Chinese coin)
- design: they were designed after Nepali coins and had no hole like Chinese cash coins
- they were dated (Chinese coins never)
- Later coins were copper and silver and carried a lion (China had mostly portraits of persons or dragons),
- denominations still were related to Nepali coins and it's fractions by cutting.
